The primary school with the latest gymnasium and multi-purpose hall, the boat landing station and swimming area are within walking distance of the chestnut grove. CHARISMATIC, WITH REFERENCE TO LOCAL BUILDING TRADITIONS

Intelligent planning is the foundation of intelligent construction. Based on this premise, the Kastanienhain residential project was developed.  

The aim was to build upon the qualities of the picturesque landscape while respecting local building traditions and historical development. At the same time, the design meets contemporary standards for modern living. The property is accessed via a quiet privateroad.

The architecture directly references the timber construction traditions of Central Switzerland, drawing from the characteristics that define Greppen's village aesthetic. Four intelligently placed dwellings blend into the topography of the slope. Light masonry, understated glazing, and high-quality wooden facades determine the aesthetics.

The houses' coloursand cladding patterns vary subtly, creating visual diversity up close and unity from afar. The choice of materials and colours results in an ideal appearance harmonized with the surrounding landscape. This is a modern reinterpretation of rural architecture.

The Kastanienhain residential complex is part of a comprehensive design plan that will guide the future development of the neighbourhood. Shortly, three wooden houses with rental apartments will be constructed to the south.

A LANDSCAPE DEFINED BY OPEN SPACESAND NATURE

Thanks to resourceful land use, much open space remains. The feeling of “living in the countryside” is tangible and real.  This aspect is underlined by the fact that the area merges uphill into open nature, characterised by forest, stream and mountain.

The green spaces between the buildings areprimarily designed as natural meadow areas, extending around the structures as generous vegetation carpets with native perennial plantings. The boundaries between landscape architecture and nature are fluid.

Tall fruit trees arranged in varying densities define the landscape, echoing ecologically valuable meadows. This theme continues with the chestnut grove adjacent to the residential complex, which inspired the project's name. Planned is a light, park-like grove of sweet chestnuts, complementing the "Rigi-Cheschtene-Weg" that runs through Greppen.
